Prevalence of STDs in the US: Teenage Girls

Human PapillomavirusA recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that more than 3 million teenage girls in the US are infected with sexually transmitted diseases. STDs can cause cervical cancer and infertility. The disease causing germs include human papillomavirus, or HPV, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and herpes simplex virus. The study also found that almost half of the tested African-American women were infected by at least one STD.
